This is actually insanley awesome if u fix the bugs it has, gta 4 level (for me i used compatiblity fixes, and deleted some physx ped data you can find more on how to phx phyx on reddit)
Terrible. Specially the DLCs. Sometimes it feels like you are throwing a dice to see if you can complete a mission or not. Should be renamed Police evasion simulator, there is ALWAYS a cop close to you. The store with the good weapons is always far away from the missions, the pedestrians sometimes jump to get hit by your car. Its a game that while has some decent story, ends up feeling pretty awful. Main story is just that, not much roaming, just follow story chapters, DLCs play more like a GTA game, but missions are timed, which ends up making them feel pretty bad. The preassure of finishing a mission fast ends up killing the experience.
game is abandoned, it has gameplay bugs and graphic bugs, really enjoyed this game but now it became unplayable.
Mafia II is considered the best entry of the trilogy by many fans, yet ironically it's also the most straightforward and basic. In a landscape dominated by Grand Theft Auto and Saint's Row, Mafia II delivers arguably the finest crime story ever told in video game form. This is more than enough to overcome a standard gameplay loop and an open-world without much to do. It's a case of backdrop over sandbox, and context over player freedom.
Vito Scaletta is an immigrant who yearns for the American Dream; a big house, fancy cars, comfortable living, the whole nine yards. He turns to a life of crime in the late 1940s and early 1950s, only to be used and exploited by just about everyone he comes across. There's this constant sense that he and his best friend Joe Barbarro never really get anywhere and this is reinforced by a careful structure and creative choices that reflect the protagonist's changing position. Across fifteen well directed chapters, the overall design puts you right in Vito's shoes; he is showered with money at one moment, only to lose it all the next.
Mafia II is far more gritty and unflinching than the original, a tale of loss, stagnation and grim consequences; something that runs counter to every other open-world game out there. The trifecta of third-person shooting, driving and stealth is present and accounted for. Once again it gets the job done with the plot being the main draw. You can buy clothes and guns, crush cars and take on wanted posters for some extra money, but the game always keeps you on task, waiting to drop the next big twist. When you're done, some extra DLC packs and collectables extend the game's length with Joe's Adventures being the best of the bunch, adding some extra detail to the narrative.
I poured most of my hours into the definitive edition released in 2020. This version runs well enough, but there are some irritating glitches that dampen the immersion a bit. The environmental pop-in is the most glaring flaw, but I also encountered dialogue playing multiple times, strange looking facial expressions and a tailing mission that bugged out a couple of times when the target refused to move. Hanger 13 really should have remastered this game alongside its predecessor. You may want to stick to the 2010 original to experience Mafia II at its best, but if you're a fan of story-driven games, this title is a must-own.
Terrible controls, AI, physics... I mean it crashes constantly, I know this is the classic edition from ages ago but what the heck do companies do to test their games? Let a chimp have 5 mins with it then ship the thing?
Despite how rush the story in this game, Mafia 2 is still a very solid game... up until the one part where you will encounter a game breaking bug that will force you to replay an entire fucking chapter because the star and the planets doesn't line close enough to allow you to proceed to the next part of the story. It is a good game by any means but the unnecessary frustration is also there as well.
Do I recommend this game? Im not sure. But if you bought this, just keep in mind of potential bugs on chapter 14.
This is one of my all time favorites. Man, Still remember my first playthrough which I did years ago. A well written story, Good graphics and cool gameplay. An absolute masterpiece.
Great game, has crashed multiple times which is frustrating.
I haven't played a game with a story as good as Mafia II in a long time, it is a must play.
Well, I've been familiar with this game for a long time, and even more so, I like it, and even sometimes I try it again, especially on New Year's Eve or in winter. And the Story and gameplay is good and even more so, this is my favorite part of the Mafia series of games, I recommend everyone to play it, you will definitely like it.
Wish it was longer but story is great and shooting is fun
Cómo mi madre solía decir: la munición nunca sobra.
How does Mafia 2 play in 2025?
Honestly, not very well and there are a number of reasons for this, first of all, the unfinished Illusion Engine and the imposed PhysX technology from Nvidia, which in most cases causes all the problems in the game, including performance. All these problems are solvable, but even with this, funny and not so funny bugs and glitches will still appear even when PhysX is disabled in the settings. In general, the technical state of the game, both at the time of release in 2011 and now in 2025, has not changed in any way, even in the re-release of Mafia II: Definitive Edition from Hangar 13. Hangar 13 even added new bugs and carefully preserved the old ones. First of all, before buying the game, it is worth keeping in mind that Mafia 2 is an unfinished game that went through a long period of development and a lot was cut out of it due to the excessive ambitions of the developer 2K Czech and the inability to bring the game features to a working state and the desire of the publisher 2K to release the game as quickly as possible in order to recoup the money spent on development.
Will you be able to feel the atmosphere of the 40s-50s, get into the spirit of that time and associate yourself with a gangster? Yes and no, since the whole game is a roller coaster, in which there are moments where it is very interesting to play, and moments when you want the dull gameplay segment to end as soon as possible.
Among the advantages, I will note the amazing winter Empire Bay, imbued with the atmosphere of the 40s, here 2K Czech tried their best and this is forever imprinted in my memory. I also liked the summer version of Empire Bay from the 50s, but not as much as the winter one. I will also note that the music for the radio from the 40s and 50s was perfectly selected and I enjoyed listening to each track while driving around the city during missions.
I liked both the car fleet of different eras and the transport control, in any case, it did not cause a feeling of irritation while driving. I also liked the car damage system. But the quality of these very cars purely visually can be very uneven, since the car looks good on the outside, and the textures on the inside are from the 2000s.
Surprisingly, the shooting in the game is very well implemented and each weapon feels special and if you get used to it, you can make beautiful headshots. But the sight, which takes up almost half of the screen, makes it difficult to aim at the enemy's head to kill him, this is a jamb of the developers.
I also liked collecting Playboy magazines throughout the game and the girls in them look quite seductive.
Of the minuses, I will note the completely static world of Empire Bay, where after missions nothing happens except for bugs, where the traffic goes crazy and on the bridge, like from a springboard, they fly into oncoming traffic and thereby try to kill you. There, even rain or snow goes exclusively according to the plot scenario and no matter how much you drive around the city, you will not wait for rain.
I did not like the cover system, which looks like it was made as quickly as possible before the release of the game, since sometimes you can quickly take cover and shoot accurately, and sometimes Vito flatly refuses to press against the cover and you are immediately shot, watching how you helplessly rush from side to side, trying to take at least some cover.
The hand-to-hand combat system and stealth kills are strictly in scripted situations. All these elements look dull and boring, given the animations there, so if possible, it is better to shoot everyone with a pistol. The partners are stupid and you won't get help from them, so it's better to rely only on yourself.
The game has a rather strange system of saving by chapters and autosave is given only after a certain stage of the mission, so if you want to rob shops or arrange a shootout with the police in free mode from a mission, then there is a high probability that you will be shot by a random NPC in the store and you will roll back to the beginning of the chapter or to the autosave.
I didn't like the plot and the general narrative, since they suffered greatly due to the unfinished game and they tried to stitch it all together, but it didn't work out very well, and therefore there are characters who are supposedly ready to give you work, but no matter how many times I went from chapter to chapter, I was always told that there are no tasks at the moment. The same applies to characters that you will see 2-3 times throughout the game.
I would recommend you to play the original first Mafia if you are not afraid of the graphics of the 2000s or the remake Mafia: Definitive Edition, there you will be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the 30s and the plot. If you hate crime and want to destroy the mafia, then you should play Mafia 3, because the developers from Hangar 13 carefully transferred the gameplay features with the capture of territories and businesses from such games as The Godfather I and The Godfather II.
The game is unplayable due to constant glitches, missing textures and crashes. There are no updates to fix these issues. The game played better on older hardware, but it's unplayable on a modern PC. FIX IT!
Great story game, i can tell that the producers had some fun, there are some bugs but they're funny and don't get in the way of gameplay.
classic. as it says in the title. duh. it's a classic guys.
keeps crashing. sky's blinking black sometimes, freeze, then force closed
better play definitive edition but its good too
The American Dream™: Now With Extra Crime

“Work hard, stay loyal, and you too can have it all.”
Mafia II (Classic): the story of how I rose from nothing to... well, slightly fancier crime.
Joe Barbaro (every 3 seconds) wrote:
"Ay Vito, you remember that time at Freddy's?"
No Joe. No, I don't. I’ve been too busy cleaning up your messes and hiding bodies in the snow.

Things I learned from this game:
- Every car in Empire Bay is made of butter and explodes on contact with a tree.
- Joe is a walking hangover in human form.
- The police will ignore drive-by shootings but WILL hunt you to the ends of the earth for a busted headlight.
- Getting rich through hard work? Nah. Let's sell gas stamps and rob a jewelry store.
- You can take a shower, get dressed, and commit a felony all before breakfast.

The Game World:
Open world... but only for decoration.
Want to explore? Great! Just don’t expect anything to actually happen. You want side missions?
You’ll drive across town for 20 minutes just to have a 30-second cutscene where someone tells you to go back where you came from.

Vito Scaletta’s Daily Routine:
- Wake up
- Put on a *fresh* 1940s outfit
- Commit at least 3 felonies
- Bury some regrets (and bodies)
[*]Repeat
Character development? Yes. Emotional depth? Definitely. Happy ending? Hahahahaha.

Final Verdict: 9/10 - Would get punched by Henry again.
Also would still do Joe’s dirty work even though I shouldn’t.
Do crime. Make money. Cry later.
Because nothing screams “success” like blood-stained suits and existential dread.
10/10. One of the best games I ever played. Great story, characters, the setting of New York is amazing.
love this game very much
only classic nver the remastered
While it will probably never match the classic Mafia, the sequel rocks as well.
- Good physics
- Elegant graphics
- Realistic
9/10 for the game
While it is a good game, I felt like it was a step down from the original.
Graphically it is better, but that is to be expected with the gap between 1 and 2. The world is well designed with great atmosphere and vibe same as all entries in the mafia series. There is a little bit more to do now compared to the first one in the open world but still not much.
Story wise, it is okay but I guess the characters just didn't connect with me. It felt a bit like Uncut Gems where the MC just goes from bad decisions to bad decisions. I don't get the hype for Vito, especially coming from Mafia 1 where Tommy was an incredible MC.
One of my pet peeves in gaming are when they give you the option to buy stuff like guns, clothes and stuff and just takes it away at a certain point of the story and this game has like 3-4 points where it just takes away everything. I could forgive it one time, but multiple times just annoys me.
It's still enjoyable to play though, flaws and all.
6/10
Mafia II is an absolute masterpiece! From start to finish, it delivers an unforgettable, immersive experience that any fan of action-adventure games will love. The storyline is gripping and emotionally charged, taking you on a thrilling journey through a beautifully recreated 1940s-1950s city. The attention to detail in both the environment and character design is top-notch, truly making you feel like you're living in the post-war era.
The gameplay is smooth and engaging, offering a perfect balance of intense action, driving, and story-driven missions. The shooting mechanics are satisfying, the driving feels realistic, and the narrative is one of the best in the genre. Every character feels well-written and developed, with the lead protagonist, Vito Scaletta, providing a deep and relatable story arc.
Visually, the game still holds up surprisingly well, with the textures and lighting bringing the world to life. The music, too, is fantastic, filled with iconic tracks that perfectly match the era.
Steam’s version of Mafia II runs incredibly smoothly, and the addition of DLCs makes this already stellar game even better. If you're a fan of open-world action or just a great story, Mafia II is an absolute must-play. It’s a hidden gem in gaming history, and I couldn’t recommend it more!
Good game. It keeps the same feeling and charm as mafia 1 and plays way better. A perfect successor to the og mafia game!
Amazing game if love movies like Goodfellas, Casino, Ocean's eleven, etc.
In Mafia II, you assume the role of Vito Scaletta, a young Italian who returns home from World War II only to find his mother and sister in debt to a loan shark. Like any character in a gangster film, Vito is determined to escape a life of poverty and opts to pursue a path in organized crime to earn money. Players will accompany Vito as he eliminates rivals, steals vehicles, and tries on various stylish outfits.
The game is set in Empire Bay, a city reminiscent of New York, bustling with people, law enforcement, vehicles, and collectible Playboy magazines. At first glance, Empire Bay appears to be an open world filled with missions and quests for Vito to undertake. However, this is not the case. Players will have only one mission at a time, which consistently propels the narrative forward. The various icons on the map—such as clothing and gun stores—serve merely to enhance the current mission. If you find yourself outgunned and frequently dying, you can purchase superior weapons upon respawning. If the police are pursuing you, you can pay to alter your vehicle's license plate. The game does not allow for wandering the streets of Mafia II to take on side jobs or interact with random characters; it is a world designed around the missions you are engaged in.
Is this a negative aspect? Certainly not—it is simply a noteworthy observation, as it may be easy to assume that the game offers extensive freedom. The downside is that, due to the singular focus on the current task in Empire Bay, the environment feels strangely vacant—it lacks a sense of vitality. While you navigate the streets and encounter other pedestrians and vehicles, it resembles a scene from The Truman Show, where everything occurs solely because of your actions. There is no moment typical of other games, where you realize that life continues independently of your character's journey.
Mafia II is a solid improvement over its predecessor. With significantly better combat, a better story, memorable characters, and great art design, Mafia II is a more enjoyable game in general. Moreover, many of the frustrating parts of Mafia I, such as the combat and how hard it was to lose the cops, have now been fixed. However, Mafia II does lack some of the charm the first game had. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, there's something about the atmosphere of Mafia I that the sequel just isn't able to beat. Overall, Mafia II is a great sequel and a fantastic game. For fans of the first Mafia game, I highly suggest giving this a try.
too buggy, dont buy
Overall what a satisfying gameplay and storyline
Vito
An immigrant that tries to win some money by stealing and then sent to war after getting caught.
Mafia II is, after the first installment, the second best game in the franchise (so far). It gives us a way to experience the life of a mafia member. While the story is well written, the attention to detail is what makes the game so incredible. The graphics are good, the driving weird and overall the the gameplay is a easy and good one.
It's a good game, if you want to experience the life of a gangster, when things in real life dont work out for you.
game is very buggy and crashes all the time. try support but haven't been able to resolve the issue.
it's good no point in playing it since the definitive edition exist
One of the best game storywise and gameplay is also amazing, Only thing that might be a little bad about it is it's bugs and compatibility issues with newer technology.
Mafia 2 is a legendary game but it have some problems :
1.some missions are hard to do.
2. I play on windows 11 and sometimes the game bugs.
and for the final I recommend this game because it's good game. It's has a great story line and I recommended to play it on winter holiday's.
This is how Mafia works
Good story and has a alot of detail compaird to alot of old gmes

Yes i know ressetting suppose to fix but for me no.(only sell car 2nd)
and I wont do chapter a 3rd time.
I try to delete and use another save but i can't because the steamautocloud.vdf keep and keep spawning i can't delete it and can't find how to add a new saves that i found.
Wont recommend this to a friend since im so angry that I can't finish a game that for one time , I really enjoy.
Fixing your game isn't our job; the graphics and visuals crash whenever I try to play it.
smooth graphics and storyline
great game but not on pc. DO NOT BUY UNTIL FIX. UNPLAYABLE. if you pass the slow mo cops after lock picking car which apparently has been a problem for 6+ years. once you get onto the next stolen car and get away half way the drive your game with start jittering and messing with graphics just to crash anyway lol they clearly don't care and just a money grab. sold them all on sale with so many issues unaddressed for too long..
For 2010 graphics, probably the best game. I love the story, the 1950's vibes the game gives.
Played an hour trying to get it to work..... Game looks fun and probably is. Does not work..... First game I have played that crashes or runs at 3 FPS... Just a bug.
love this game but its always crashing, graphical bugs and slow fps because its so old.
Good action, story line and way too many laughs. One of the best games ever made imo.
игра отличная с интересным сюжетом,жаль что короткая и конец не очень веселый
100% recommend this if you got time and don't know what to do with it, this is the best way to spend it. Ngl the whole experience felt like a movie.10/10 game
good game, only bad part is no spaghetti.
