Gauntlet™ Slayer Edition

This is an arpg with a capital A. It is ten years old but still has a dedicated community of players. Spme have over 12,000 hours in the game. It is difficult to unlock the 50th achievement solo, but the community is ready to assist.

100%-ing the game is very grindy unless you put 100 or so hours in the game anyway.

Played Gauntlet Legends back in the day and although this isn't a remake of the one I played I'm still in love with it!

As one who played the original Gauntlet at the arcades and bought it as soon as it was released on the first generation Nintendo console, I can confidently say this is a faithful iteration of the classic Gauntlet game. Most of the core elements that made Gauntlet special are here but presented in an updated style with better graphics and a few different mechanics thrown in the make the game feel revitalized.

In some ways, the game is possibly too similar to the original for its own good as the simplicity and repetitive nature of the gameplay will not necessarily appeal to the preferences and expectations of modern day gamers. Even for me, nostalgia could not sustain my interest in this game for more than several hours, just long enough to complete the campaign which was surprisingly short.

A few deviations from the original game that were to the detriment of this version included reducing the spawn rate and number of enemies, and making the game feel linear and less like a convoluted maze. I have no regrets spending my money and time with this version of Gauntlet, but I would recommend getting it on sale and keeping your expectations in check.

I guess if you're hungry for that 4player coop dungeon crawl, but there's better these days.

Fun game and can play all 4 players locally. No split screen. My kids love playing with me.

Repeatative. There multiple no win scenarios. Annoying isometric fixed view. Levels are long and you can only save progress at the end of a level. Died several times near the end of a level. Got tired of replaying the whole level over and over just to get to the last part. Wasn't expecting much from a 1980's remake. I was still disappointed.

Despite the flaws this game has, and the legacy it may or may not live up to depending on your history with the franchise, Gauntlet is still my favorite horde-slayer in 2025. I have nearly a thousand hours between Vermintide 2 and Darktide, and have greatly enjoyed time in Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop, Helldivers 2, GTFO, Magicka 1 & 2, and other games of their kind. I wouldn't say that Gauntlet is a better game than any of the others listed, but it is a good game, and one I personally strongly recommend. The vast majority of my time in the game was singleplayer, but any opportunity to play with friends is a welcome one.

Good old-fashioned top-down shooter with online multi-player.

Good game overall, just simple fast fun, but death really ruins the levels he is on. Basically changes from a 9/10 game to a 2/10 game instantly. It should either be removed or be optional.

I played thousands of hours of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for N64 back in the day, and (Sorry, devs) it just doesn't hit the same. There are other reviews for how gud the game is, but I am not that reviewer.

..It feels like the game lost something in translation. Old Gauntlet was a joy; lots of enemies, fun voice lines, balanced gameplay. This entry just seems hollow. The voices are forced, level design feels like a collection of assets rather than a world to explore, and weapons seem to have been made to please leadership on 'how much we added' rather than 'we kept a similar feeling, but upgraded', ie, a whole bunch of bad combos instead of hack n slash.

It just feels thin and hollow. I've been trying to get a copy of G:DL for years, and was so happy to find this new entry to the series, but... I just wanted Dark Legacy, not some top-down attempt at "re-imagining" what didn't need changing.

Maybe i'm the odd one out, and I really tried to like this game, but no.

Its good for mindless hack and slash for a newer set of players, but i wish Arrowhead didnt skip us older players over so harshly.

It would be better if I could play it. GeForce RTX 4080 Super. with i9 and 32GB of ram. If its choppy on this then it is the dev fault. I guess I will try this game again in a year.

Fun couch game with friends.

Amazing game. So much fun with or without freinds. Hack n Slash is great and the replayability is so much fun

Can't go wrong for the price, especially when they give you 3 extra copies to gift your friends.

Worst game play ever.
You have to constantly move around which gets old and tiring.
Death in the catacombs comes constantly and you can barley get away if your lucky....

This is alright for a gauntlet entry but its still good...

If you loved Gauntlet when you were young, don't buy this game, its not like you remember! Go buy something else, Streets of Rage, Alter Beast, Final Fight, etc.

Pick this up on sale and you can have a great 7-10 hours with friends for less than $3

Great game, lots of fun solo or co-op. Great for a quick challenge or a marathon night too. Only wish there was more!

Oh wow, used to play the original 1985 game on my sega megadrive with my brother. We loved it so much so I just had to download this. It's just as amazing as I remember, and now it isn't 8-bit 😂.

I have loved this game since I was a kid playing with my dad and brother on the N64. I love being able to play with my husband and friends as an adult! Takes me back to my childhood

A game more likely to be cloned and fed story line?

Challenging combat arenas and each character plays pretty uniquely by default. (Especially the Wizard, who just straight up uses a lite version of Magicka's spell casting system.) A surprising amount of meaningful customisation can be unlocked too for different attacks and abilities. The combat plays way more like modern Diablo than classic Gauntlet honestly, but that's probably for the best. It's a very good coop game but I just wish obtaining gold wasn't character specific since everyone has to be a different character at all times.

Attack angles are garbage, playing a melee character is suicide unless you only attack with the I-frame abilities to get you out afterwards, throwing potions doesn't go where you aim, you just have to predict how far it will go and try and land it. They constantly put food next to gold jars that you have to hit to loot, causing you to hit food.

If you're looking for a Gauntlet Legends experience like you had on N64 this is not it. I could see SOME people paying the $3 sale price but if you're paying full price may God have Mercy on your Soul and your Wallet.

Fun game.

Has the nostalgia of the original but with some added modern prettiness. Online play is fantastic - just drop into a dungeon and make some new friends :) Superb arcadey fun.

Game is very fun, reminds me of the Playstation 2 version I played all night long with friends back in the day. Great to play with friends for Remote Play, as only one person needs to have the game!!!

clearing a dungeon with 4 of your is a cool idea and you make tactics about what to do and how to clear a dungeon not gonno lie at first graphics look cheap at least for me but when you play you realise graphics are good the biggest downside to this game you can't play without friend but it is easy to play with your friends if you have them first of all game is really cheap and you can ven play with your phone I recomend 4 pack :3

It's a fun, albeit short, game. Three of us beat it in less than 8 hours. How long to beat the game notwithstanding, it's a fun little game with fair graphics and worth the ( bought it on sale ) price.

This game is kinda fun but damn is it unbalanced af if you're playing solo, would I recommend if you have friends to play with? Sure. solo? Eeeeeeeh, at your own discretion, really, but I personally wouldn't recommend it, it's pretty frustrating even in the early levels.

If you're built different then go for it.
