Devil May Cry 5 is the long-awaited return of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises, and it doesn’t just meet expectations—it shatters them with style, substance, and pure, unrelenting action. Developed by Capcom, this 2019 release brings the beloved series back to its roots, giving players everything they love about Devil May Cry: over-the-top combat, killer music, jaw-dropping visuals, and an unforgettable cast of characters. And then it takes everything a step further, delivering a polished, refined, and visually stunning experience that reinvents what we thought we knew about hack-and-slash games.
At the heart of Devil May Cry 5 is its combat system, and let me tell you—it’s flawless. The series has always been known for its fast-paced, fluid combat, but DMC5 takes that to a new level of brilliance. The game introduces three distinct protagonists—Nero, Dante, and a mysterious new character named V—each with unique combat mechanics that ensure gameplay feels fresh throughout the entire adventure.
Nero, now equipped with a new robotic arm (the Devil Breaker), offers a mix of ranged and close combat, with a wealth of special abilities to experiment with. Dante, the legendary demon hunter, is as flamboyant as ever, capable of switching between multiple weapon styles on the fly, allowing for near-limitless combo creativity. V, the enigma of the trio, fights with a summons-based system, controlling demons to do his bidding, making for a slower but methodical approach to combat.
What really stands out, though, is the game’s focus on fluidity and variety. The combo system rewards experimentation, and you’ll constantly feel like you’re mastering new moves. The game’s ranking system keeps you on your toes, urging you to keep your combos tight, stylish, and lethal. It’s not just about getting through the enemies—it’s about looking good while doing it. And you will look good.
The Devil Trigger mechanic—where characters tap into their demonic powers for devastating effects—returns in full force, adding a sense of power fantasy that always feels satisfying. Whether you’re playing as Nero, Dante, or V, the Devil Trigger makes you feel unstoppable in the best possible way.
The plot in Devil May Cry 5 is a surprisingly emotional and compelling journey, which is not something fans necessarily expect from a game that’s all about hacking and slashing. Without diving into spoilers, DMC5 ties together the series' long-running story arcs while introducing new conflicts and raising the stakes to a new level. While it doesn’t have the most complex narrative, it’s engaging enough to keep you hooked, especially as the characters evolve and the mysteries unfold.
The character development is where Devil May Cry 5 truly shines. Nero’s arc is surprisingly emotional, his growth as both a person and a demon hunter adding weight to his character. Dante is the same cocky, swagger-filled hero we’ve come to love, but his moments of vulnerability, particularly in his relationship with Nero, add layers to his persona. V, the mysterious third protagonist, adds an intriguing dynamic to the story with his cryptic motives and surprising backstory.
As for the dialogue? It’s classic Devil May Cry—snarky, self-aware, and occasionally absurd, but always fun. Whether it's Dante quipping about his own coolness or Nero’s frustrated rants about his missing arm, the banter keeps things lighthearted amidst the chaos.
Visually, Devil May Cry 5 is an absolute triumph. The game looks stunning, with rich, highly detailed environments that make the action pop off the screen. From the gothic, demon-infested streets to the more surreal and chaotic environments later in the game, every level feels unique and meticulously designed. Character models are exceptionally detailed, with Dante and Nero looking better than ever, while V’s summoned demons have a haunting, almost surreal quality to them.
The animation is top-tier, especially when it comes to the combat. The fluidity of each character’s moveset is mesmerizing to watch, with every combo looking like a carefully choreographed dance of destruction. The visual effects during fights, particularly when activating the Devil Trigger, are stunningly cinematic and make each battle feel epic.
The soundtrack of Devil May Cry 5 is a thunderous blend of hard rock, metal, and orchestral music that perfectly complements the game's tone. Tracks like "Devil Trigger" are not only catchy but become ingrained in your mind long after you've finished playing. The music kicks in during the most intense moments, elevating the action to new heights and matching the energy of the combat.
Sound design in DMC5 is also top-notch, with satisfying weapon sounds, guttural demon roars, and explosive effects filling your speakers. The audio design makes every slash and bullet feel impactful, and the Devil Trigger sequences are punctuated by intense, bone-rattling effects that make you feel the power of the transformation.
Devil May Cry 5 is everything a Devil May Cry fan could ask for—and more. The combat is smooth, stylish, and deeply satisfying. The story, while not the deepest, is packed with emotional moments and character growth. Visually, it’s a showpiece, with environments that pop and characters that never looked better. Capcom has truly outdone themselves with this installment, creating one of the best action games of the modern era.
It’s fast, it’s flashy, and it’s unapologetically over the top—and that’s why we love it. If you’re a fan of stylish action games, or even if you’ve never played a Devil May Cry game before, DMC5 is an absolute must-play.
Rating: 10/10
Ah yes, the game in which Vergil decided to separate his human and demon sides to gain more power and Vergil's human side decided to manipulate both Vergil's brother and Vergil's child (without his knowledge) to come stop demon Vergil so that human Vergil could reunite with demon Vergil to become Vergil once more.(truly a game about vergil)
Vergil Jr fights with Vergil and Vergil's Brother to defeat Vergil.
10/10 Recommend highly.
You came for Vergil's theme. I came because of Vergil's theme. We are not the same
Що можу сказати по грі...та дуже багато. Гра потребує від тебе знання комбо, сюжет класний, за кожного персона грати цікаво. Загалом гру пройшов 2 рази. 7/10
Very cool game, its been out for so long and yet now i only got to enjoy this masterpiece. Would very much recommend to other people.
The game does a great job of offering you fun experience regardless if you're here for a casual playthrough with button mashing, or you are interested in exploring the in-depth combat it offers. Amazing soundtracks combined with great graphics really come together to elevate the overall experience even further.
Smokin' Fucking Sexy Stile
This game is simply incredible, they've evolved everything the franchise has built. I haven't finished the game yet but whatever, my score for this is SFSS.
Absolutely amazing game that saved this franchise from going down to hell thanks to its disappointing predecessors. I wouldn't even feel concerned about the story (because there isn't one from DMC 1-4), so don't be afraid to pick up DMC 5 and play it. You won't be disappointed!
Personally, I think this is like a linear game version of Final Fantasy
About the monster design, it's too crude, looks very boring, lacks diversity in design, the design of the monsters is stereotyped for a new generation game with 2019 graphics, it's unacceptable.
The environment design is very bad, it's like this is a game of an average student dev who just learned to make games, the environment is very crude, the buildings, the roads are stereotyped and full of ruts.
About the plot, the dialogue is very boring, like a C-class movie from the 2000s
However, with the current price, this game is completely a reasonable choice to play, but with the price when it was first released, I really think it's too sketchy, for me to spend money. Please make it have the same quality as your Resident Evil remake games, thank you.
Game is just fantastic its suckable and everything even goonable
FYI, this game is NOT bad. It is very good. I need a bleach mod for this shit.
хорошая игра интересная,так же не плохой сюжет боевка 10/10 и классно что у каждого героя есть свои функции рекомендую
Vergil hires Vergil's brother so they can fight Vergil, then Vergil's son helps Vergil to defeat Vergil. I rate this game !0 POWER out of !0 motivations.
"A game where Vergil hires Vergil's brother and Vergil's son to defeat Vergil so Vergil can become Vergil, ft. Vergil." -Max0r
Unfortunately, when starting the game, it causes a complete crash of my system, unable to exit, or do anything but a hard reset, have tried all the fixes available, ini edits etc, but the game just doesn't appear to want to work for me, despite my system running more intensive titles
Yay. The game about Vergil hiring Vergil's son and Vergil's brother to kill Vergil, so Vergil can become Vergil. (Featuring Vergil)
Saw the game was on sale.
Used to play the shit out of it on Xbox.
Bought it.
Beat the shit out of Urinate thrice.
Got dante must day on hour seven (rookie numbers i know, my ancestors looking down on me as we speak)
Still cannot sex the funny white man.
terrible game, I recommend playing DMC 2 instead. (the demon of Babylon disguises himself with the veil of the rightous)
I was sweating bullets with how much I had to use my hands and they ended up being sore to hell because of how hard Trish made it for me to concentrate, oh and the game was difficult as well.

10/10 chef's buttcheeks been here
I'm REALLY hard.
At first I was like,V is cringe. Looks like Rodrey from Diary of a Wimpy Kid,white hair man better.
Now? My god his moveset is so fun.Dodging, using familliars, combos, bonus damage, finishers.
bro has AURA. Got all my rank achievements with him. Also the game has BANGERS and I know BANGERS.
Really fun game, with a great game design and features, along with a bunch of random scenes that make the game hilarious and enjoyable.
This game made me think I was some cool as demon slayer dude with buncha hawt girls in line for me. Infact it made me so confident that I went ahead and asked a girl if she wanted to be my girlfriend. She said yes!!!
I told her every girl does.
Devil May Cry: A Wild Ride Through the Demon-Slaying Universe
Welcome to the Devil May Cry universe, where demons are slayed with style, family drama is more intense than a soap opera, and everyone’s got a really complicated relationship with their father. At the center of it all is Dante, the wise-cracking, demon-slaying son of Sparda, who’s got a bad habit of starting family feuds and fighting demons in the most absurd ways imaginable. The games mix fast-paced action with tragic backstories, and, of course, a healthy dose of chaos. But don’t worry—we’re here to break it all down in a more casual, devilishly fun way.
The Story So Far: Demons, Family Drama, and Really Cool Swords
The Devil May Cry saga kicks off with Devil May Cry 1, where we meet Dante. He’s got a snazzy shop, a demon-hunting business, and a chip on his shoulder the size of a skyscraper. His mother’s dead, his dad is an absent demon lord (who really didn’t pay child support), and he’s just trying to figure it all out. Then boom, a mysterious woman named Trish shows up, and suddenly Dante’s fighting demons, uncovering family secrets, and facing off against his estranged twin brother, Vergil, who wants all the power—no matter the cost.
Fast-forward to Devil May Cry 3, and we get a younger, hair-defying Dante—still cocky, still ridiculously stylish, but now he's locked in a serious sibling rivalry with Vergil. Their rivalry is basically who can be more emo and power-hungry, and it’s not pretty. But it’s fun. By the end of it, Vergil’s had enough of human feelings and embraces his demonic side (who wouldn’t want a demonic katana named Yamato, right?).
In Devil May Cry 4, we meet Nero, a young man with a mysterious connection to the demon world. He’s basically Dante’s emo cousin—lots of anger, lots of “Why am I even here?” moments, but he learns a thing or two about family and power as the game progresses. Spoiler: it turns out Nero’s got a bit more of a connection to Dante than he realizes (thanks, Sparda).
Then there’s Devil May Cry 5, where the drama hits its peak. Vergil’s back (because what’s a family reunion without a little demonic interference?), and Nero, now fully aware of his own abilities, teams up with Dante to stop Vergil from fusing with a powerful demon king. Oh, and there’s also a giant tree made of demons, because why not?
Vergil: The Power-Hungry Brother Who Just Wants to Feel Something
Vergil is a man of few words, but plenty of powerful actions. His entire existence is about transcending humanity and proving that being the strongest is the only thing that matters. Bury the Light—his theme song in Devil May Cry 5—perfectly captures his inner turmoil. It starts slow and haunting, almost like Vergil’s silently contemplating his own life choices (probably while drinking black coffee), but as his style rank increases in battle, the song cranks up, just like his need for more power. We get it, Vergil—you want to be the most powerful demon around. But do you need to be this dramatic about it?
Vergil’s fighting style in DMC5 is all about precision. While Dante is off juggling swords, guns, and motorcycles (yes, motorcycles), Vergil’s over here calmly slicing through enemies with his katana like it’s a Tuesday morning. His gameplay rewards players who like things quick, sharp, and efficient—no time for flair when you’re too busy being perfect.
Oh, and let’s not forget Vergil’s Nelo Angelo phase from Devil May Cry 1, when he totally gave up his humanity to chase power like a guy who skipped leg day. That was a real low point for the guy, but hey, at least he got a cool demonic armor set out of it.
Dante: The Whacky Demon Hunter Who’s Just Trying to Make It Through the Day
Ah, Dante. The man, the myth, the walking meme. In Devil May Cry 3, Dante is a one-man circus, armed with the world's most impractical jacket and a lethal sense of humor. He’s always cracking jokes, riding in style, and basically doing everything in his power to make the demons he faces look like complete fools. Seriously, you can’t take Dante too seriously because he’s over here doing flips while fighting demons. He’s basically the definition of “why not?”
But don’t let the jokes fool you. By the time Devil May Cry 5 rolls around, Dante is still doing ridiculous things (like fighting a giant demon with a motorcycle), but now he’s a bit more jaded. He’s still cracking one-liners like it’s his full-time job, but you can tell he’s been through some stuff. The man’s got layers, people! Layers of bad jokes, of course.
Vergil’s Comeback and Nero’s “I’m Not Deadweight, I Swear” Journey
Speaking of comebacks, Vergil's playable return in DMC5 Special Edition is like that one time you thought your favorite villain was done for, but then—bam—he’s back and even more powerful than before. Unlike most bosses who become playable and feel kinda weak, Vergil's moveset is just as satisfying to use as Dante’s, but with less chaos and more murderous elegance. Precision is key when you’re Vergil, and he knows how to make an entrance.
Nero, on the other hand, spends most of DMC4 thinking he’s “deadweight” compared to Dante and Vergil. Poor guy just needed some self-confidence, y'know? But in DMC5, he gets a much-needed glow-up. Thanks to Nico, the world’s most bad-ass mechanic, Nero goes from “oh, I’m just the guy who fights demons” to “hey, I’m actually kind of a big deal.” He’s still the emotional heart of the game, and by the end of it, he’s not just “deadweight” anymore—he’s an important part of the family drama, much to Dante’s dismay.
V: The Human Side of Vergil—Or Just the Guy Who Won’t Stop Talking About His Poetry
And then there’s V, the human side of Vergil that everyone loves (or tolerates). He’s quirky, poetic, and honestly, a little too dramatic sometimes. But hey, he represents Vergil’s humanity—so, I guess it makes sense that V is basically a walking “emo poetry book” with a giant demon pet. V’s role in DMC5 is to help Vergil reconcile with his lost humanity, which leads to one of the most tragic and whimsical character arcs of the series.
Dante vs. Vergil: Who’s Got the Better Combat?
Dante’s combat is like juggling knives while riding a rollercoaster—it’s chaotic, complex, and a little bit wild. You’ve got all these weapons, all these styles, and it’s like an action game mixed with a dance recital. Vergil, on the other hand, is the pure precision player. No frills, just a katana and a lot of speed. Both are incredibly fun to play, but it really comes down to whether you want to dance or slice through things like you’re auditioning for America’s Next Top Demon Slayer.
Conclusion: Family Drama, Power, and Absolute Whimsy
At the end of the day, Devil May Cry isn’t just about the absurd action or the insane moves—it’s about family, demons, and an emotional rollercoaster that makes you laugh, cry, and maybe even question your own existence. Dante and Vergil’s sibling rivalry is the beating heart of the series, while Nero’s growth reminds us all that even the “deadweight” can become a hero. And then there’s V, who, let’s face it, probably needs to go write some more poems.
So, whether you’re flipping motorcycles, summoning demons, or just trying to survive family reunions with the world’s most dysfunctional family, Devil May Cry proves that sometimes, the best way to deal with your problems is with style, a bit of chaos, and an absurdly large sword.
I can see how this game would be appealing to some people but I was bored the entire time I played it. Combos can be cool sure but they don't even work on most enemies that aren't complete fodder. If I wanted to play a game to learn combos I'd play a fighting game. Obviously the plot doesn't matter in this type of game but it still felt like the entire story could fit into a single 20 minute Rick and Morty episode. There is almost no variety in environments. Repetitive enemies and repetitive boss fights. Cringe dialogue that sounds like the characters are talking to each other with a 5 second delay and translated to Japanese and back. V is absolutely terrible to play as.
Saints Row Humor,DOOM Gameplay and Resident Evil 2/3 Remake Graphics.Great game!
Help I cant get vergil's theme out of my head. The game was amazing but what else did i expect from DMC, if you didnt like it then there is something wrong with you and not the game.
You press buttons. Things explode. Music kicks in. Suddenly you're mid-air doing 12-hit combos and taunting before you land.
Starts simple. Then it gets in your blood. You chase that SSS rank like your life depends on it.
Nero punches first, asks never.
Dante is unhinged and has a gun that plays the drums.
V lets his animals do the work while he writes poetry.
Fights are fast. Clean. No downtime.
Every hit feels good.
Every boss is a highlight.
Every mission is a chance to look cooler than you actually are.
Visuals? Still sharp.
Soundtrack? Unreal.
Performance? Zero issues. Loads fast, runs smooth. Controller highly recommended.
Never gets boring. No filler. Just pure, stylish violence.
Easy to start. Deep if you want it to be. Game wants you to shine.
The leveldesign unfortunately is very boring and doesn't do this game any favors. About 80 % of the whole game take place in the Devil Tree which looks like red and black barf everywhere you look. I played previous DMC games and liked them but I'm not feeling this one at all.
So far the most complete and enjoyable Devil May Cry game i've ever played.
Devil May cry 5 provides the most entertaining gameplay of the whole franchise, having a total of 4 characters to play with (Still have to try Vergil though) and they all provide different playstyles despite Nero and Dante being similar. Nero has a pretty simple concept and i really like the fact that every Devil breaker has different purposes, V seemed boring at first impact but after i've played him few missions, it became really fun to use, and Dante..... Dante by far the best character in the game to play with, he can switch with weapons and styles like in the previous games.
Also it's probably the only game which doesn't actually need mods to have more-complete experience
i'm not currently following the story because i want to focus myself on the gameplay first and speaking of the story, this game has also excellent cutscenes
Probably a downside of the game in my people are the Urizen bossfights, i'm not a huge fan of hard bossifight that you are supposed to lose, especially when it's the first in-game approach and when you meet him more than once, but i believe that's the part of the storyline i guess....
I might re-upload / edit this review once completed game whole game and tested the DLCs
Fun combat, but the decision to switch characters during the story mission, made the experience inconsistent. 4/5
an amazing display of a character action game with a highly in-depth combat system this along with few others is quite literally the holy grail of the hack and slash genre
great story and gameplay, one of the best games i have ever played.
what can i say? THIS IS TRULY MASTERPIECE
The story peak! the gameplay is challenging (depends on what your difficulty was)
And the song.. it's legendary
worth the time, hope to see the newcoming story
Best DMC game ever. One of my best experiences in action hack and slash, period.
The realism, the story, the gameplay. Ah, so perfect.
And I am literally the storm that is approaching!!!
I've put over 50 hours into this game between having it on PS4/PS5 and PC. This game just keeps pulling me back. It's a literal spectacle to play/watch. The music is, and always has been, top tier. I'm 50/50 on the anime slated to release next month, but the trailers/promos brought me back again. There is no way Capcom is going to let this IP sit and collect dust (I hope). Nothing is more satisfying than getting a SSS rank in combat.
Let's rock, baby!
This game has ruined me. Now, I can't play any other game because they feel so f*****g slow and boring
แฟนเดวิวเมครายไม่มีใครพลาดอยู่แล้ว แถมมีมอดเยอะแยะ 555555+
Great game, amazing graphics, smooth combat system. Beat this game multiple times. Easily replayable
Devil May Cry 5 is a game about Vergil hiring Vergil's brother and Vergil's son in order to work with Vergil to kill Vergil so that Vergil can fuse with Vergil to become Vergil. 11/10 motivation would Vergil again.
The story isn’t that great and is sometimes hard to follow. Besides that’s the gameplay is amazing and the graphics are pretty good. Overall that’s a great game 8.5/10
i thought i'd try a DMC game
I like platinum game games, i thought DMC was a similar sort of thing, Instead it's very clunky and all the inputs are based on the way your char is currently facing vs where the camera is facing, you have to use lockon to do half the things but it will never lockon to the targets you want it to, just could not have fun with this. Honestly do not get the hype
Best capcom franchise and best hack'n'slash game ever idc, 10/10 story , 11/10 combat and 11/10 char development , highly recomended. ohh also dont forget devils never cry.
The modding community is absolute cinema. peak difficulty alongside peak combat.
Ten motivations outta 10
Smooth game-play and is definitely well worth it's price
Good Game 10/10 would play again if i had the storage
I don't have much experience with hack and slash games but after playing this game I am going to check out all the DMC games. Super good game totally recommended to anyone who want's to kill some demons with style.
