Pros:
Challenging, but very fun.

Cons:
Plot is unclear, no dialogs at all, sometimes i had no choice but to look up the internet for clues.

Came here after completing "Inside" and you can definitely see a lot of the great elements that made Inside so special. Like most predecessors of great games, this one is "merely" solid, as it definitely feels more like a typical puzzle platformer.

The start of the game has some of that unique genius that places us in the setting, but as you progress, the platform puzzles just seem more disjointed from the environment, and are mostly there to just provide a challenge, than to contribute more to the setting. The end of the game feels quite abrupt, and like a bit of an afterthought, so I'm glad I played it, but be under no illusion that it is a bit more of a straight platformer than Inside.

Inside was clearly a perfection of the style and gameplay for this team, so as a solid platformer, I am happy to throw money here and support them through both the games, I recommend you do to!

Super aesthetically pleasing puzzle game which does not pull punches and can often be a huge POS. I feel that INSIDE improves the ideas in this game to a high degree but this game still manages to be a short, fun, sometimes tricky experience which has a great sense of mystique and profound meaning with no clear description.

One thing to know before playing is that this game definitely does not hold your hand like many other similar puzzle games do. Some puzzles may seem impossible at first, but then you notice something like a detail in the background that first seemed like a decoration. You have to be really observant and creative to beat the game.

(spoilers) The abrupt end was a bit weird and I didn't see what was happening at first, but after reading a little, I get it and it's a pretty good ending. I just wish they made it clearer to understand without confusion.

TL;DR If you liked Little Nightmares, you will most likely like Limbo too

Garbage.

This game started off strong, I would even have given it a 100 out of 10. The atmosphere was really haunting and terrifying. A spider relentlessly hunted you, traps were cleverly placed, and mysterious children stalked and tried to kill you. It was gripping, eerie, and full of promise, which I hoped it last forever.

But then the game completely falls apart. Everything that made the first half compelling gets tossed aside. The game becomes a dull, lifeless 2D platformer with zero sense of danger or urgency. All the aforementioned threats vanish, and so does any excitement.

Puzzles, the only thing left after the mid-game, are boring. You just need to die once or twice, learn the pattern, and then move on. That’s the entire gameplay loop: die, pass, repeat.

A huge letdown after such a strong start.

Not sure about history of these kind of platformers but LIMBO was a pioneer for me in terms of environment, setting and storytelling without having a word, a text, a voice line or anything.

Extremely simple game but doesn't mean it isn't special. I hope this game will be remembered for ages and I hope it inspires more games than it already have.

Also very beginner friendly for people that are not used to videogames which was the case for some people I met.

LIMBO is a hauntingly atmospheric puzzle-platformer that masterfully blends minimalist gameplay with a dark, mysterious narrative. The game follows a young boy as he navigates a shadowy, desolate world, solving environmental puzzles and avoiding deadly hazards along the way. The monochromatic art style, combined with eerie sound design, creates a deeply immersive and unsettling atmosphere that keeps you on edge throughout. The puzzles are clever and rewarding, often requiring precise timing and careful observation of the environment. Though the gameplay is simple, the emotional weight of the story, conveyed without dialogue or text, leaves a lasting impact. LIMBO excels in creating a sense of isolation and tension, making it a memorable experience for those who enjoy atmospheric storytelling and thought-provoking gameplay. It’s a brief but powerful journey that lingers long after you’ve completed it.

I didn't really care for it. The art style was pretty cool and some of the concepts were neat, but the puzzles weren't as challenging as they were mildly tedious. Basically, you would just walk through the puzzle, die, and know the solution. The platforming is a little funky at times, but even with that I beat it in under 2 hours. It's usually on sale for super cheap so it's probably worth it to figure out your thoughts for yourself, but I really didn't care for it.

- The game does not hold your hand. Some parts will be difficult and take multiple (if not 20+) attempts.
- I don't see ANY replayability here. Good 2-3 hour experience for a couple bucks.
- Definitely a classic I remember playing this as a little kid.
- Only buy ON SALE. (Anything >$5 is perfect).

Pretty good. I see why the game created a lot of internet talk back when it came out. I also see how this game, and Braid, really influenced the indie sphere for years. Format is easy to digest, and new gameplay elements come and go with just the right tempo to prevent the old ones from becoming stale. Should be in every gamers library, especially if you are interested in something fresh.

The abrupt ending is so brutal for this game tho. I love games that has environmental narrative with no spoken words! Absolutely brilliant storytelling. Inside is still a better game tho.

Ending explained (spoilers)
The girl at the end is our sister that we have been looking for through the whole game apparently. And she is seen burying the player. The light beam we shattered through is our death and the game we played is basically symbolizing life itself as a journey. This is a dystopian world where the player and his sister both died and they are going to heaven through the ladder at the end, to the tree house above

Despite it's excellent start with gaspingly brutal peril befalling the little lad moving eternally right all lit with an iconic black and white simplistic artstyle which only intensifies the brutality of each passing puzzle. Eventually however these puzzles denigrate themselves to finicky physic mechanics or have an incredibly obvious solution that simply takes forever to put in place as a result of the little legs of the previously mentioned lad you play as. Most unfortunate is that by the time these puzzles appear in the game no story or visuals appear that really impressed and even ended on a sour note, it really felt like the devs just gave up at that point and smashed the END GAME button where another puzzle should have gone. And this ending is a sour note symphony with a super "arty" and "interpretive" ending that fails to deliver any actual emotion or feeling from me besides "Thank fuck that's over with". If its already plaguing your library just kill the spider and go about your day.

Yeah no ending joke. Now I even saved you the experience of beating the game.

Spent the first 10 minutes dying to a bear trap I definitely saw.
Spent the next hour dying in increasingly creative ways.
The game doesn’t teach you—it punishes you until you learn.
Limbo is just trial and error... and then more error... and then surprise saw blade.

10/10 atmosphere.
10/10 child endangerment.
0/10 for the spider’s hospitality.

Instead of a puzzle game,it feels more like a soulslike game. You have to die in order to find solutions to get over these "puzzles".

I never played any puzzle games before but i am certainly sure this not how a puzzle games work.
From what i know from puzzle games,it's about testing your ingenuity and using your brain, but this game do the opposite by minimizing the gameplay of using them. You test your patience instead.

The beginning of the gameplay is pretty good, gives vibe of mysterious and dreadful environment, escaping from the giant spider and some goofy kids tried to kill me,and that's all. That's all the fun i had.In the later gameplay they threw if off completely. The whole gameplay is just Push box>Pull lever>Parkour>Die>Repeat,There's nothing but boxes and lever. The spider have a define exeunt but what about those kids?0 explicating.

And i forgot to mention there's parasites that keeps stick on your head disrupting your movement. You can't avoid them, you have to get through a whole long ass way just to get rid of them and proceed to go back to where you started.Like, what's the point of this? It's just waste of time for me.If it appears for only once or twice,id say that's a very well designed mechanic, but more than that? No,not for me.

After halfway in the game,i felt nothing but fatigue.Repetitive puzzles is a big issues for this game. After completing a puzzle,i don't felt any sense of accomplishment or satisfaction, the puzzles' is just child's play and is not addictive.I am not proud of what i've solved,i just keep dying to find solutions.I kept playing puzzles pretty much the same again and again.Feels only hollowness.I don't enjoyed playing this game at all.

I agreed the art style, atmosphere is state-of-the-art and the checkpoints are mercy, but it doesn't cover up the fact that it has shitty gameplay.
4/10 only recommended for those who came only for it's art and atmosphere.

LIMBO is a reminder of childhood mobile games for most, and so is for me. A quiet and simple puzzle-platformer.

The only problem with the PC port is that once you set yourself up to smash through the glass wall the game slows down and freezes. I couldn't progress further than that no matter what i tried, kinda sad.

Beautiful, But at What Cost?

Started playing LIMBO thinking I was diving into a mysterious, artsy platformer. First half was promising. Creepy woods. Giant spider, and some sketchy shadow kids trying to murder me. “Cool,” I thought. “There’s lore in this game. Maybe I’ll uncover something big.”

Then halfway through everything starts losing potential, it’s just me, boxes, levers, and my eternal enemy: gravity. The mysterious enemies vanish like my patience. Puzzles stop feeling clever and start feeling like unpaid internships in frustration. Everything starts to feel like a big chore. And don’t get me started on the brain worms, those things hijack your controls like your little brother grabbing the controller mid-fight. Past this point in the game it only gets worse.

At some point, I stopped playing to enjoy the game, and started playing to end the game. Every death means a 7-second timeout (respawn time) like you’re a toddler who touched the stove. You stare at a screen. Nothing happens. You reflect your life choices and the fact that you missed a jump because a rope was one pixel too far.

And sure, checkpoints do exist, but sometimes you die right at the end of a chapter and it pulls you back five minutes. LIMBO isn’t long, but it feels long when you’re redoing the same sequence over and over like it’s Groundhog Day: Shadow Edition.

By the final stretch, I was watching walkthroughs just to finish the game. Not because I was stumped, because I was done. Done dragging boxes, done with puzzles that only make sense in hindsight, and so done with getting crushed by a gear I didn’t know existed because the screen is darker than my will to keep playing.

Yes, the atmosphere is top tier. Sound design? Haunting and brilliant. But that’s like serving a gourmet meal on a table that collapses every five minutes.

LIMBO is beautiful, but it hides a soul-crushing grind behind its silhouette art. It wants to be poetic, but ends up feeling like an edgy platformer with commitment issues.

I wanted mystery. I got misery.
Great vibes. Bad time.
3/10. Would rather let the game’s brain worm control my life than replay this. (Ngl he would be better at controlling it than me)

First Half vs Second Half

The first half of LIMBO is pretty promising few examples are these: nice environment, mysterious creatures, and multiple suggestion of hidden lore. There’s a bit tension and curiosity. But halfway in, it all goes away. All enemies that were shown during the gameplay disappear, the world loses its mysterious part, and the game turns into repetitive puzzles. The brain worm mechanic, which disables forward / backward movement, is time wasting mechanic, it becomes more annoying than intresting and it appears multiple times.

Pacing and Padding

LIMBO feels like its trying to hide its limited content with extended playtime with things like: long respawn time (around 7 seconds) which adds unnecessary downtime, especially when it comes to trial-and-error sequences. Checkpoints that are far away sometimes forcing you to replay minutes of content after a single mistimed jump. It starts feeling more like filler than thoughtful design. Im not saying the content is limited but this just makes me feel like it is. For example, you struggle to get past a specific point in a chapter and you finally succeed, but then, near the end, you get crushed by a box because you mistimed your jump or the controls were too lazy to work. Then you have to go through all that struggle again, and this can happen multiple times in one chapter in the same place, forcing you to repeat the same thing a hundred times.

Puzzle Design Issues

Most puzzles are based on trial and error. Few offer the satisfaction of a well planned solution. Instead, you’ll die multiple times learning the “gotcha” tricks before executing them with perfect timing. It becomes tedious fast.

Final Stretch

Around 75% into the game, the repetitiveness outdoes any remaining charm. The puzzles stop being creative and start feeling like chores. At this point, walkthroughs felt like a necessity not for difficulty, but because I just wanted to be done.

What Could’ve Saved It

  • More story beats – Give us something. Even subtle environmental storytelling or shadowy flashbacks could’ve made the world feel alive for longer. That giant spider? The weird shadow kids? Please bring them back later. Tie them to something. Anything.
  • Smarter Puzzles, Not Harder Ones – Less “gotcha” and more “aha.” Let the player feel clever, not punished. A good puzzle makes you think, not rage quit.
  • Less time wasting – If you’re going to kill me 47 times in one section, at least don’t make me wait 7 seconds everytime you do. That’s over 5 minutes of my life I’m not getting back.
  • More Enemies– LIMBO started strong with enemies at first that felt like real threats. Why abandon them? Even one or two new types later on could’ve kept the tension alive.
  • Better Pacing – Not all moment needs to be a puzzle. Mix in more tension, more danger, more mystery. Make us want to see what’s next, not dread it.

The Good, The Bad, The Brain Worm

The Good

  • Visuals that slap: The monochrome style, the silhouettes, the lighting — it’s genuinely gorgeous. LIMBO could hang in an art gallery and no one would question it.
  • Sound design is immaculate: Creaks, whispers, distant rumbles — everything sounds exactly how existential dread should sound.
  • Strong opening: The first third of the game had me hooked. I wanted to know where I was, what the spider wanted, and why shadow kids were trying to unalive me.

The Bad

  • Puzzles that feel like unpaid internships: Half the time you’re solving stuff not with logic, but with sheer repetition and suffering.
  • Vanishing mystery: Every cool enemy or world element is front-loaded. The second half drops it all like a hot box.
  • Padding, padding, padding: That respawn delay? The redoing of entire sections because of one mistimed input? It’s not adding depth — just dragging things out.
Tonal Flatline in the Second Half
  • LIMBO starts with horror, tension, and urgency — and ends with you dragging a crate onto a button for the fifth time in a row.
  • Puzzle Design Punishes Curiosity
Try exploring? You die. Test a switch? You die. Wait too long to jump? You guessed it — you die. It trains you to stop experimenting and just play it safe, which is the opposite of what a puzzle platformer should do.

The Brain worm

[*]The mechanic that hijacks your controls like a bad roommate with your Netflix password.
It shows up too often, overstays its welcome, and only serves to stretch out the game time. It’s not challenging in a fun way. (Yes I had to make separate category for ts)

Visuals and Sound

The atmosphere is excellent. LIMBO nails its look and sound design. Unfortunately, those elements aren’t enough to carry the game when its core gameplay starts to drag.

Who Is This Game For?

LIMBO is a game for those who don’t mind discomfort, not just from its eerie atmosphere, but from its slow, repetitive, often unrewarding gameplay. It’s for players drawn to mood over momentum, who can sit with ambiguity and find beauty in frustration. If you need clear goals, evolving mechanics, or satisfying payoffs, this might not be your game. LIMBO doesn’t guide, explain, or often reward, it just is.

Final Verdict

LIMBO is stunning to look at and amazing in atmosphere, but it stumbles hard when it comes to gameplay. The game begins as a mysterious, moody journey turns into a repetitive slog of trial-and-error puzzles and drawn-out platforming. It hints at depth but never delivers, leaving you with more frustration than fulfillment.

It is beautiful, sure - but beautiful doesn’t always mean worth it.

3/10 — Gorgeous, but ultimately empty.

honestly.. it's not a good game looking at it with modern standards
everything and has to be done almost perfectly, when you die you sometimes wait for a minute until you can properly do something again..
im saying this as someone who loves precision platformers, where everything HAS to be perfect.. here it just feels very clunky which makes perfect movement hard and the game feel frustrating
death screen takes forever to roll in, depending on how you died and a lot of it is just repetitive, combined with doing the same thing over and over and waiting

nevertheless, the game is 14 years old and it is impressive just for what it is/was back then
it's got its place but I would not spend my time on this game again

I just finished Limbo and unlocked all 12 achievements — what a game.

From the very beginning, the game grabs your attention with its unique black-and-white style and mysterious world. No talking, no tutorials — just you and the game figuring things out. I loved that.

The puzzles were challenging in a good way, and every section felt different and interesting. Some moments actually made me pause and just take in the atmosphere. It’s creepy, quiet, and beautiful at the same time.

Finishing all the achievements felt rewarding too — it made me explore the game deeper and appreciate all the little details.

Most of the puzzles rely on timing which can be annoying sometimes, but other than that solid early game + mid game, nice mechanics, nice game.
