Slime Rancher is a really nice and wholesome game.
I picked it up while my pc was down and i needed something to play for a week while i had literally nothing better to do. That was kind of a mistake because I didn't realize the sub-plot was about isolation xD. So playing it in my room by myself for 14 hours was.... yeah.
In general though, super happy game, super fun game, a bit pricey, but over all worth the extra cost.
The only other thing i would like to mention is that this game is mainly exploration, there is farming, but exploration is how do 90% of the game. So if your playing this explicitly for the farming aspect, you may want to look somewhere else.
Finally, this is a great game for anyone who likes to look for secrets. There are so many areas where i thought i had accidentally broke the game and left the map, just to find a secret capsule or slime.
Definitely a game for those who really like to explore.
The first few hours of the game are honestly a blast—exploring the world, discovering all the different slimes, and just vibing in this super pretty universe is really fun. But after a while, it kind of stops feeling like an adventure and starts feeling more like a routine. You go out, collect slimes, gather food, sell plorts, upgrade stuff, then do it all over again.
Don’t get me wrong—I still really like the game—but it does get pretty repetitive. Eventually, it just starts to feel aimless, and that made it harder for me to stay into it.
It's a very fun game that can go at your own pace, whether you want to speed run it, or just make fun combanations of the slimes! It's an old game, but it's definitely worth the money and your time!
Sometimes, we all want to detach ourselves from the tiring reality we're trapped in, don't we? Whether it's been a terrible day at work, social burnout, current events, or just the world randomly seeming more depressing than usual, we all have some form of media to leave it all behind for just a few hours. For me, one of those masterpieces I use to cope is Slime Rancher. It reminds me of the way I saw the world when I was a kid; bright, colorful, wholesome, just a stress free little world to explore without the pressure of doing anything wrong. The only downside I can really think of is that it isn't real.
Also, you can put googly eyes on the smiles.
10/10 game
I've has this game for nearly 5 years across different devices and i have never got bored of it, there is always something new to do and there are so many different ways to play the game that you can play over and over again and not get bored.
The DLCs are really cute and fun, but are not necessary for game play and i think that's what i like about them. Although they are good DLCs, you don't need them to play the game.
For the price, Slime Rancher not only gives you hundreds of hours of play-time but also many unique experiences, it is the perfect mix of calm chill game play with the rush of having to fight off enemies, such as tarr. There is a way to play Slime Rancher for everyone, and i firmly believe that every person who plays this game would be able to find at least one thing that they find fun.
Organising your farm, slime science, trading and so much more make the game feel complete and very fleshed out for the price. Couldn't recommend Slime Rancher enough and i'm so excited to get a device good enough to run the second one.
Great game to relax and de-stress...unless you're farming Quantum Slimes.
Slime Rancher is a good game I would say. It does get repetitive after a while, but the game introduce's new stuff to the player along the way. The slime's are very cute though. I've played this game for a little over 9 hours, and It's good so far. Just, it does sometime take a long time to get back to the ranch "You're starting zone" after hunting slime's and other stuff. Anyway, this game is good, but it can be a little boring sometimes.
This game was a lot deeper than I expected from a game mostly dealing in Slime poop (plorts).
----------------
Okay so lets go over the positives:
- The Slimes are adorable
- The controls are simple
- There are several areas to explore
- The game is not nearly as punishing as other farming simulators.
- Music is good.
- A decent amount of slime varieties
- I like the minigames that open up later.
And now the cons:
- The science stuff isn't explained very well & is tedious and super grindy
- There is an "ending" to the game but I hear the sequel kinda leaves you with the cliffhanger so I'm kinda mad about that.
- Ranch customization is minimal and I feel they could have done more.
- The game is super short.
Still, this is a game I would play to relax and mindlessly wander after a rough day. It scratched that farming-simulator-itch that other games couldn't scratch. I think this game could have done with some DLC before they moved on to make the sequel and, while I totally recommend this game, I'm sad there's not more to do while I wait for the sequel to actually be a finished product.
Great relaxing game and easy to understand and get the grip off. I would recommed if you want to waste time and do something interesting at the same time
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
I really liked this game—it’s one of those experiences that just makes you feel good while playing. The overall vibe is super cozy and relaxing, and it’s easy to lose track of time because of how addictive the gameplay is.
One of the biggest highlights for me is the adorable slime designs. Each one has so much personality, and it’s genuinely fun to discover new types and figure out how to take care of them. The game does a great job of mixing simple mechanics with a sense of progression, which makes every session satisfying.
If you’re looking for a chill game that’s still engaging, this is absolutely worth checking out. It's cute, fun, and just the right amount of addicting—a perfect comfort game.
honestly if your looking for a game thats casual yet still can be somewhat difficult or confusing or new to gaming. get this game. currently the first game of the series is more fleshed out but the second one will take over in time once more content and bugs get fixed. Amazing game and cute slimes are very much included
Slime cute, just ignore the part where we're exploiting them for profit
Comfort game :) I love slime rancher so much! Puddle Slimes are my favorate. Slime rancher is so nice to play after a hard day, it's relaxing to just tend to your ranch.
LOVE this game. Adore it. Ive played it for a super long time and keep on restarting over and over just cuz of how great it is. Amazing music, cute idea, entertaining gameplay, it has it all!
One of my most played games is slime rancher. I adore this game because it is very colourful and the slimes are cute.
Other than that, the game-play is smooth and easy to figure out. It is a sandbox game and there is a lot to explore. There is a mix of adventure and some kind of farming which makes the game fun to play.
Slime Rancher is a good game I recommend you get mods for free on nexus mods mods can make the game batter
it is a good game
I'm in love with this game so much! The soundtrack is pleasant to listen to that I even listen to it outside of the game, and the world is so cool! I would spend more of my time exploring one area than collecting slimes! Oh the slimes? They are amazing! The designs are ICONIC I TELL YOU! You could take one look at them, and instantly recognise them.
I recommend playing this even if you have the second game already. It's very worth it.
I like The Tarr slime is my favourite it's so adorable!
one of my favorite indie titles of all time. simple, sweet fun that I can enjoy, this is my "comfort-food" game and I am able to come back anytime I am anxious or on the brink of a mental breakdown, which this game has helped me with in the past.
How could I not give this game an 100/10 for healing me mentally
Peaceful happy gloopy slimy fun time extravaganza!!! :3
Goopy gooey fun alone when your by yourself. Just catch different grimy slimy goobers set em in your ranch's pens and breed them til your hearts content. My personal favorite experience of this game was when I made the gigantic gloopy c.u.m. clinger that i proceeded to flick off the walls while it made a mess like randy marsh getting his hands on a computer. In this game you can also sell off the piles of s.h.i.t. rocks the little goony goobers drop for cash after feeding them preferred foods. You may then use the coins to then expand & upgrade ram ranch. Overall the game is fun for a short burst but can get tiresome pretty quickly and can be completed pretty fast without much reason for replay ability apart from trophies or just wanting to see a maxed out ranch.
I followed this game through development on the Xbox and had an absolute blast. This game is so good that even though i don't have my Xbox anymore i still have 2 current copies of this game (steam and Switch Plortable edition great name by the way). The story all though not important to even play the game is amazing and drags you back in. This game is amazing through and through and i cant recommend a better way to relax and spend your time.
Slime Rancher offers fairly colorful, relaxing experience of farming funky looking slimes. Its charming visuals and simple gameplay are enjoyable, but it can get repetitive fairly quickly.
This is game is awesome and is a classic from my childhood
My fav childhood game, which I absolutely adore. I enjoy games like that, so it doesn't get annoying for me to play for many hours, as there are many things to explore, some grinding, and many features to buy. (Even badges pretty fun to do)
Race badges made me reflect on my life.
Slime rancher is by far one of my favourite games I've ever played! It's cozy and fun, great for curling up at the end of the day (up until you accidentally let loose an army of tar slimes...)
LOVE ITT AWH ! i bought it because of some youtubers that played this game a while ago , its very cute and not hard to understand at all c: if ur thinking about buying it , do it !!
amazing game! i cant stress it enough this game is so good lol. customizing different corrals for your slimes and breeding them to make largos is so fun. that feeling when you come back to the ranch and your plort collectors are filled to the brim is so awesome. overall i would highly recommend this game
This game is way cuter than it has any right to be. It is fun, chill, and interesting enough to just vibe with.
Fun, relaxing, charming. Good for chill gameplay.
As someone who has played Slime Rancher way back during its early development, exploring what were open, unfinished lands and only having so few slimes, and now comparing it to its current day finished game. I gotta say, its always been a recommended game from me.
If you enjoy ranching, similarly to farm-adj. games, and you enjoy exploring, and also making a profit via slimes, I'd probably say this game is for you!
The environments are gorgeous, the artstyle is bubbly, and everything within the world is cute as all hell. While there is lore within the game, as you explore you get to see and learn about some of the mysteries and theories of the far-far range. It helps bring the world together, and at the same time, leaves it just as intriguing and mysterious as when you started.
However, the "story", is kind of meh. Not bad at all mind you, but its very lackluster, and feels added on. I personally did enjoy the story, and the lil emails that you got after certain days and finding specific notes, but overall, it was just very. Meh. It doesn't negate or take away the fact that we really are just, out in the far-far range, far away within space, and doing what? Slime Ranching :)
Now, if you're like me, and you're thinking of collecting all the achievements, I'd say, its fairly easy! A lot of them are just things that will occur within your playthrough, but some of the achievements are locked behind an alt. game mode (rush mode). And honestly? With a few tries, you'll get the hang of the new mode and unlock the needed achievements. Some will require a guide as the game at times does become a big finnicky, but overall, its fairly easy to get 100% of achievements within the game.
(I do wanna add that I think its fairly funny how if you get 100% achievements, it doesn't mean you 100% YOUR game. Theres still so much to explore and find, even after finishing! As of the review, I am still finding treasure pods, and new corners to find and see.)
So, if you want a game that is adorable, can explore to your hearts content, and ranch lil slimes, I think you'll enjoy this game :)
Funny game where i can make automated processes to extract the useful material out of cute slimes to further my machines efficiency
I can see why people like the game - it's cute, it has fun physics interactions, and the theme is creative. Unfortunately, the game fell flat for me - it just felt tedious most of the time. It constantly felt like I just had a bunch of chores to do. The story didn't resonate with me either. Overall, I didn't hate the experience, but it's not something I'd recommend.
Wholesome and Full of Positivity
Slime Rancher is the absolute cutest game I’ve ever played. The moment I stepped into the Far, Far Range, I was instantly hooked - exploring, discovering, and learning all about the slimes. Ironically, every time a slime said "wee", I found myself saying it too - I just couldn’t help it.
Since I’ve played many fast-paced FPS games where characters constantly die, Slime Rancher felt refreshingly peaceful. Instead of death, you simply get "knocked out," and there’s no violence. It manages to stay entirely family-friendly while still appealing to a wide range of players. That’s a rare achievement, and I genuinely applaud the creators for pulling it off. At first, it felt strange to be playing such a non-violent first-person game, but the adorable graphics quickly reminded me that this is something entirely different.
I also really love how achievements are integrated. When you unlock something, the game gives you a custom in-game notification with a cute effect - not just the generic Steam pop-up. It reminded me of Team Fortress 2, and I wish more games took that extra step.
Minor Complaints / Wishes:
- The game lacks co-op, which I’m sure many players would appreciate. While it might not fit the current story perfectly, the story could be adapted to allow for the co-op experience.
- The "Never Stop Creating" achievement (fabricating 100 gadgets) felt a bit soul-crushing - especially since it was the final one that I needed for my adventure world. I ended up fabricating "garbage", so to speak.
- Traveling back from The Moss Blanket to The Dry Reef can be annoying without teleporters. I understand teleporters are the intended solution, but they’re not exactly cheap to fabricate.
- The main map is a bit hard to navigate, both in terms of layout and visual clarity.
- Some actions deserve achievements but don’t have any. For example, reviving all the oases in the Glass Desert felt warm and meaningful, but it would’ve been nice to see the game recognize that. Another example is helping certain characters with their tasks, which eventually unlocks access to their homes. I never actually unlocked those homes - not because I didn’t care, but because the game doesn’t acknowledge them with achievements. Since those were side quests, and I had already completed all the achievements, I found myself less motivated to go through with them, even though I still cared about those parts of the game.
- The last section of the Glass Desert felt a bit strange. I understand it was tied to the story, but even in that context, the area felt somewhat meaningless, and it forced me to go back anyway. I think reaching that area should trigger the ending cutscene anyway, rather than making the player return home and wait for one specific letter.
[*] Interacting with characters is done entirely through terminals, and they often dump a huge wall of text. The same goes for letters to Beatrix (the game's main character). While lore enthusiasts might enjoy this, I didn’t feel much of a connection with the characters, and honestly, I didn’t miss it. The gameplay was the priority, which isn’t that bad after all.
Regardless, the game is fantastic and shows its innovations proudly. I would recommend it to anyone, even if it looks family-friendly. If you like exploration and unique gameplay mechanics, then I am sure you'll like it!
9 out of 10
The gameplay ended up being surprisingly dynamic and customizable. I originally thought I'd catch a few slimes, organize them, upgrade the ranch, and that'd be the end of it, but there's much more to Slime Rancher than first meets the eye. Largo slimes (a mix of two slime species) made the game far more involved. It felt great when I figured out that I could mix certain slimes together to not only give them a diet that's easier to manage, but also create more plorts (items mainly used to make money, craft with, and make largos) in the process. I wasn’t a fan of how difficult it was to move largos. You can only transport one at a time and can’t bring them through teleporters, so ranch renovations were pretty tedious.
Uncovering new parts of the map and finding new slimes was always exciting, and once I got to the end of the first map, I started to become intrigued about how the game would continue. I was pleasantly surprised to find a whole second map to explore. At this point, I had read some of the messages scattered around the map, and was interested about some sort of ending. When I reached the end of the second map, I found a conclusion of sorts, so I was a little surprised at the lack of credits. I was even more surprised when I saw the credits several minutes later while checking my in-game inbox, where a different and apparently "main" story had been unfolding. For a while I found this story to be unsatisfactory because it was quite detached from the gameplay and lacked an emotional impact because of it, but that very well might have been the point. The story being told through emails from the lover you left behind to become a slime rancher showed the detachment from love and focus on adventure.
The lab made ranching so much easier and hands-off. It let me craft items, like drones and warp tech, which created much more fluidity in various tasks around the ranch. My only complaint about the lab was that it felt like it took too long to get access to it, but that could very well just be because of my own gameplay approach. My ranch was stressful to manage for awhile without access to drones, market links, refinery links, teleporters, etc. but became extremely easy and efficient once I managed to get a few of those pieces of tech.
My biggest complaint about the game is that, despite various ways to upgrade your gear, the upgrades are somewhat lacking. First off, you can only hold four different items at any given time, with no upgrades to hold new items besides water. As few as four singular, but slightly different, baby chicks could prevent you from holding anything else, but hundreds of slimes and food items could fit the same amount of space just fine. Second, movement around the map became monotonous very quickly, despite upgrades for that too. You can increase your energy and eventually place teleporters down nearly wherever you want, but the amount of energy you have to sprint and to use your jetpack was insufficient in many situations. The jetpack itself is also incredibly inept, both using a lot of energy and not elevating you very high in the air. Despite these areas for improvement, the upgrades you get access to do end up making your life easier.
I found it really enjoyable when I got access to NPC ranches and special tasks, it made the world feel much more alive and added several hours of gameplay. You don’t really get a chance to interact with the other ranchers in a significant way before visiting their ranches, but they get a chance to shine when you finally do. Despite my critiques, the game was some chill fun and is a great game for completionists who have some extra time on their hands. Great buy at a discount.
I really love this game and i hope that the owners will see this and give me the dlc for free i have it on my xbox 1 and its so fun i hope your have fun too.
its very fun, easy for little kids to understand but not too kid-ish and easy that it cant be fun for teens or adults. slimes are all cute in general and just an overall amazing game.
The game is very fun. There are some minor clunky moments but that is no0t surprising considering the age.
The slimes are very cute and the soundtrack is soothing.
If you have pet birds they may not like some of thee in game sounds i have found just a FYI
Cozy and fun little game. I've watched my boys play it over the years and finally gave it a shot. I do enjoy the combination slimes and how you can automate the farm how you'd like. Now that I've finished the story and done pretty much everything I wanted to do, onto the second!
this game is extremely fun an there is alot I could say but Im going to leave it to you to experience for yourself
Very relaxing and cute game! The aesthetics are absolutely adorable!
Cute, wonderful, colorful, fun and innovative masterpiece
Bought this on sale to see if it really was as good as I heard it was.
It is, it is amazing, play the game.
Cute, fun, and more than a little chaotic. The ability to explore so many places and find so many different slimes makes this a game you can play for hours. They managed to take what amounts to a very simple game mechanic and make it enjoyable for hours.
such a nice and cozy game, so simple and so fun. Amazing exploration and just getting different slimes to increase your funds is an enjoyable experience.
I LOVE MY SLIMES!!!!!
It's a relaxing game, You take care of the slimes, there are different types of slimes to take care of, different type of crops and fruits to grow for said slimes, some slimes prefer one over the other. The game is warm and bright, the soundtrack is fun. Overall the game is cute as hell. Also did not expect to get feels at the end of the game. 9/10
Super fun and adorable! wish it were multiplayer though
Good game for sure, but not one I'm too into. If you think you'll like it, you probably will, so you don't need to hesitate.
One of my favorite cozy fun games, fully recommend!
This game is deserving of all the love and support it gets
It feels unfinished. Dont get me wrong, its a really good game, but its missing that something. It feels like there is a mechanic or a gameplay loop missing. Not to mention the disappointing endgame content. Still, good game. Especially the rush mode.
I'd prefer if there were a middle option between "yes" and "no" for this, but we don't have that.
So i ended up leaning towards no. This is a decent enough game, but there are a lot of improvements to be made (in my opinion). could do with some QOL improvements for several things, the quests are ok, but doesn't really give you much for just completing them.
After finishing the story, i still had A LOT of things to unlock or even build. Ended up just running back and forth on the farm to grind money. Things are a bit expensive in this game, so i kinda skipped out on a lot of it.
It's cute though. Generally chill game.
AHH I LOVE THIS GAME!! Ever since I can remember, my dream was to play it, and I finally got it! For me, it’s one of those games you just instantly connect with. Beautiful landscapes, silly creatures, quirky sound effects… what more could you ask for?? I adore this game!! I totally recommend it if you’re looking for a casual and super wholesome experience. LIVE LOVE SLIME RANCHER
