It's pretty good.
Haunts my dreams.
Can't make it past Wave 25.
I give up .
Great game!
2 massive crashes that made Windows shut down. Stuff like this shouldn't happen with a small indie game.
Other than that, what I could gather from 2 short sessions (before it crashed) is that there is quite a bit of micromanaging even at lower levels and sending troops back and forth either one at a time or all at once with nothing in between is a hassle. Finally, being able to pause but unable to do anything, look at your hand or give commands is a bummer.
Probably could have been fun for a few hours but I'll never know as I don't want my computer to explode.
Card based defense.
This cards base defense game does well because it is action packed. The gameplay pace is relentless and it is easy to pick up. This is a good game that won't suffer from time but from its lack of polish. For example when you pause the screen you deck is frozen so you cannot just take your time to read the cards' effect. It looks like a very small game at the first glance given the only 3 maps and only one mode that is just a survival mode basically but it actually got me hooked because it's not easy and there are tons of cards to unlock. It seems that they did not want you to win too fast so they just trickle the new cards little by little, typical of roguelike, I am not complaining. Each map is a land on which you can expand and discover new biomes and enemies.
Easy to pick up, fast paced, tons of cards to unlock, good strategy game 7/10
One of the best rogelike-card games i played, The amount of possible decks and cards is nice, there's 6 "classes" and each of them has easily at least 4 viable gimmicks you can play around. The rng sometimes sucks because you really can get screwed out of essential cards and your deck just doesn't work but that's a part of the challenged. The cards are also not balanced at all but that's the charm of deckbuilders. The amount of unlockable cards is just astonishing, at the start of the game there's a lot of strategies, and by the end your card pool will double or triple.
but the ui is very, very clunky. Highlighted cards stick, drawing takes forever. Playing a high APM (because the game for some reason doesn't have an active pause) deck in the lategame is so frustrating. It's the worst where i know i have an infinite combo that could let me win but the cards in my hand keep fighting me, each redraw must go through so many animations, before i can play, effects that draw cards cause massive delays, and the highlighting and drawing of cards feels clunky. There's nothing worse than seeing a giant turtle destroy your city but you played a large draw card and have to look at your deck shuffle and reshuffle before being allowed to play.
An active pause would fix this, but for some reason you can't play at all while paused.
A good tower defense game but there's no real way to tell if you are getting better at it. Nonetheless, addictive in the sense of wanting to repeatedly attempt to defeat a map with any certain "Leader".
Some odd sound effects from units as their card is played.
One of the units calls you a pussy when you play it.
It's adorable. I hope they make more content eventually.
Man this game is really bad, I don't know why it gets so much love... Runs consist of 30 waves and strangely enough the last 10 waves are waaay harder then all the rest. All the cards that worked beforehand become absolutley worthless and just the best ones work. The micromanagement is stressfull because it is designed very poorly. Try sending troops to a specific wall or even try to split them up, it's just a mess and does not work very well.
A good portion of my runs went very smoothly just to be crushed during the last 10 waves. And the run took 40 mins each time, what a waste of time....
a real game for a real big rat that makes all the rules
I really enjoyed the mix of city building, deck building and wave defense. The game is difficult but not too difficult if you learn how to play, and there is a good amount of variety since each of the 6 available factions have completely different decks with different play styles.
A great roguelike. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this. If you're a fan of Slay the Spire or Monster Train, this is a great experience well worth your time.
Mouse city ... simple build and defense game, which will keep you till you get all chalenges or give up and then you will at some future time return to it to complete all.
Synchronize nicely between win/mac. So good for travels.
Great game. A lot to discover, a new cards or comrates after every level. Sadly, there is no upgrades, which I would love to say as part of Roguelike - sadly, its just a Roguelite, but still very engaging :D
A fun strategy-based/rogue-like deckbuilder!
I can't recommend this enough for people who enjoy a card based strategy. There is much variety here all packaged in with cute rats vs various monster/animals.
Very cool game
scratches all the right buttons
Sometimes enemies will just jump over the wall to kill my ass. Good game.
It is fun and has a lot of variety, but...
Desperately needs a way to micro-manage units, like rectangle-drag-box to select units or popup menu that shows all units one by one and lets you select them in batch.
It becomes impossible to send soldiers left and right, back an forth, when you need to assign them by clicking one by one. You cannot even pause the game to do that, you need to try and click them while the timer is running.
The wall's group-selection is not enough to manage the army, because either you filter them all or none, there is no way to tell the game: "send 4 archers to the leftmost wall" or "split the army in half for each class, and then keep them at each side".
Note.: the title cutscene's narrator kinda sounds like VideoGameDunkey
My all time favorite game. Every once in a while I'd crave to play it again, and to my surprise various changes has been implemented so it's never get boring! Awesome dev ~ please just make more stuffs like this instead of ratopia
It is a hard card game but a satisfying one.
I really wanted to like it. The concept and combination of mechanics is great but the execution didn't do it for me. It felt like I would get punished out of the blue, and lose whole runs, for trying anything that wasn't whatever the game deems as "broken." I would get 29/30 waves in without a hitch, and then meet a boss at wave 30 that would disregard everything I scaled up to that point. Guess I should've just magically known. Too many numbers all over the place, and no helpful way to parse through it and understand what's actually effective. It makes me feel like most of the strategies aren't really viable and the game just expects me to stumble upon the ones that actually get the job done. Last, but not least, the "micro-management" of units is tedious at best, and game-losing at worse.
I wish there were more games with this concept, executed better.
Kept crashing on launch, or once game mode selected. I followed all the advice published in the "bugs" discussion page, without resolution. It's a shame, I liked the look of this game.
This game is underrated and sooooooo much fun.
Fast paced and there's so many different play styles every run. Tickles my ADHD brain.
I invested and got 1 million dollars in less then a second
great game
funny, just win the game in 2.8 hours. Now i have nothing to do with this game. very short content
I love this game. So much variety in the way you can play.
wave 15 difficulty 0, elite enemies can spawn inside your settlement, none of your rear flank archers will attack, shoots down your castle in ten seconds
Is there a way to group selection troops with your mouse? When I get attacked on one side, I have a hard time moving them. It is either all from one, or 1 at a time; it would be better if I could box select some that I want.
If you ever thought to yourself you know what Slay the Spire needs is a turn timer and a tower defense mechanic than this is the game for you. Very cute. Very Stressful. Very Korean. 9/10
The start of a new run feels a bit slow but aside from that: Thumbs Up!
fun game, would recommend on sale.
Great game, great art style ,vibrant art and all in all a great game would recommend to people who like slay the spire and did not get enough of the game, the game is simple but versatile and i see myself playing this hours on end overall 9/10 game imo
I'll defend these rats with my life..
I ate a rat, it was raw, however very tasty.
update: I am very ill.
For what the game is...its pretty fucking great. Very in depth.
Love how the game combined tower defense and roguelike. If you love both genre, try the game out!
Slay the Spire: Great
Kingdom Two Crowns: Great
The love child of both, Ratropolis: Amazing!
The only thing they could do better is create Ratropolis 2
enjoyed this game a lot. if you like card battlers and tower defense this is a good mixture of the two. city and resource management with bit of chance and some strategy. would recommend.
very interesting game.
It's a game about rats. I repeat: THIS IS A GAME ABOUT RATS.
Card Game Slaps.
Very fun, only sad thing is there is not that much content.
I love runnin my little rat civilization
Incredibly good game!
Really wish they would add some DLC's for the game because i just cant get enough of it.
Highly recommended!
Not sure why its called Ratropolis when they're clearly mice, but an interesting deckbuilding colony sim nonetheless.
Very cool mechanics, variety of builds, appreciate the support it's had over the years, cute art style, very good game I'd say.
Short version: If you like deckbuilding rouglites you should like this game.
I really like the variety of ways the game can play out. From the leaders you choose, the cards you get, the buildings you build (from the cards), each game feels fresh.
Addressing some negative review comments:
Not enough synergies--HAHAHA *wheeze* HAHAHA
These kinds of comments are probably from STS players who are used to grabbing one super card and building their entire strategy around it. There are a few of those but not as many in Ratropolis. However, it isn't just a deckbuilder. There are buildings and leaders to consider. There are 6 leaders (maybe 8), each with their own decks and two genders for each leader, which changes their abilities. So there are 12 different sets of abilities for you to build your deck around and different buildings you can use to add to those synergies. Further, each region has different boon cards that will work better with some leaders. So, across 12 leaders and 3 regions, you have 36 different ability and boon combos to synergize with different potential decks. Also, you unlock more/better cards as you play with each leader. I've seen the comment that there are only 2-3 viable strategies...maybe for each leader??
Ability to win based on APM--this almost made me not buy the game, and it is just not true
I find myself waiting for card draw timers more often than paying to rush it and get more actions in. The game starts slow and ends fast. But APM really isn't something to worry about. Buildings are refreshing on a 2-minute timer or so, and you only need to activate a few of them (maybe 4-5, depending on how many you build) so they're not vying for your attention. There is no troop micro unless you are falling back from a wall during a tough fight (1 click). I really just don't see the APM argument at all, except in MAYBE the last two waves where you're blowing through your money to cycle your deck.
Can't ever get good cards in hand--it's a deck-building game....remove cards.
Some buildings do this every activation, chests that allow this, and events that do this. It's a core part of deckbuilding rouglites. Buy new cards, and delete base deck cards as you progress.
Brutal difficulty spike--the end game is tough; think of it like the heart in STS
It's not as bad as the heart, but consider the last few waves (26-30) the end game. You're building up your troops and abilities to fight a big nasty fight at the end. Also, it is a rougleite. Expect to lose before you win. I clocked my first W on my 4th game but got a bit lucky with a good card early and a synergy I had with the regional boon. Would you bash Hades if you didn't win within the first five runs?
Git-gud game that's too punishing--I see you, but it's not that bad
It's easier than STS, which is probably the most similar game to compare it to. After your first game or two, it's generally easy to make it to the endgame. Is the endgame hard? Yes. That is the genre. IS it brutally punishing and impossible? Definitely not. It is essentially a stat check on your deck and existing troops. Did you build well enough to defend the final waves or not? If not, no amount of APM or residual gold will save you. I think that's why people feel it is punishing. They feel like they should be able to overcome 25 rounds of bad prep with good moves. That's not how deckbuilders work. If you didn't prep for the end-game, thin your deck out, and have troops/abilities that can carry you, you are going to watch the cute little rats burn (RIP). Honestly, it's no different from any other deckbuilding rouglite I've played in that respect.
All-in-all the gameplay should feel familiar with some fresh elements and a LOT of different ways to play. Definitely worth picking up if you are on the fence!
어...? 재밌는데...?
low hours playtime negative review
